As parents, we want to instill good values to our kids. We want them to grow up kind, good-natured individuals. We want them to develop empathy - or putting oneself in someone else shoe. The book, The Cool Bean, tells a story of how kids can develop empathy and kindness to their playmates, school mates and everyone else.
I was privileged to host one of the twelve storytimes before the book will be available to the public. The book is geared toward the emotional learning of children.
It tells of a story of how the "cool beans" are famous and popular. Everyone knows the cool beans. They’re sooooo cool. Were they famous because of how they move? Or their sunglasses?
And then there’s the uncool has-bean . . .
Always on the sidelines, one bean unsuccessfully tries everything he can to fit in with the crowd—until one day the cool beans show him how it’s done.
The cool beans are cool because they were kind to the uncool has-been.
