Swarms of grasshoppers
This week, the Las Vegas Strip had unexpected visitors- the swarming of grasshoppers. Fear not, they are harmless and pose no danger. Nevada state entomologist Jeff Knight says the insects don't carry disease, don't bite, and probably won't damage anybody's yard before they're gone in several weeks.
The bugs are attracted to lights, specifically ultraviolet lights, Knight said. Bright white lights are their common hangout place. If residents are worried or want to deter the bugs, they can install amber or low-UV lights.
Traffic Advisory
From Sunday, July 28 to Friday, August 2, heavy traffic expected at World Market Center for the Summer Las Vegas Market. Approximately 50,000 attendees participate in each bi-annual Las Vegas Market. Market hours open at 8:00 am all-day.
During market hours, we anticipate heavy vehicle traffic northbound on Grand Central Parkway between Charleston Boulevard and Symphony Park Drive, as well as moderate to heavy vehicle traffic eastbound on Bonneville from Martin L. King Boulevard to Grand Central Parkway during the morning hours.
During evening market hours, heavy traffic is anticipated on Bonneville (westbound) from Grand Central Parkway to Martin L. King Boulevard as well as southbound on both Grand Central Parkway and Martin L. King from Bonneville to Charleston Boulevard. Additional congestion is expected westbound on Symphony Park between Grand Central Parkway and Martin L King Boulevard.
Due to ongoing construction with Project Neon within the area, please use the WAZE app to determine the best possible routes through the area.
During these peak times, alternate routes are recommended to reach destinations outside this area. Please see maps below.
